Perspective, ink and watercolour from scratch — the 8-week foundation course

Designed for beginners, this 8-week course gives you the essential tools to sketch buildings and urban scenes with clarity and control. You'll build your understanding of perspective, proportions, tonal value and composition step by step — with the time to actually practise each one.

By the end of the eight weeks, you'll be able to look at a building or a street and know how to start — and you'll have a folder of sketches you didn't think you could make.

What You’ll Learn

  • Ink & watercolour — how the two work together: line first or wash first, how much to leave out, how to keep it loose
  • Linear perspective — one- and two-point, including a street that turns and more complex urban layouts
  • Tonal value — light, shadow and midtone to give a flat sketch depth and volume
  • Proportions & simplification — what to keep and what to drop so a building still reads as itself
  • Figures — people at the right scale, drawn in a few marks rather than detailed

How it works

Each 3-hour session starts with the theory behind what we're about to draw, with time for questions. Then the project is demonstrated step by step — the teacher shows a stage, you draw it, and we move on together — with plenty of personal guidance along the way.
