Learn the essential techniques to capture the beauty of architecture in ink and watercolor

Our Architectural Sketching course is offered in an extended 8-week format, giving you the time and structure needed to build real confidence step by step.

Designed for beginners, this course gives you the essential tools to sketch buildings and dynamic urban scenes with clarity and control. You will gradually develop your understanding of perspective, proportions, tonal value, and composition.

We will explore how to sketch a street with a turn, construct more complex urban spaces, and naturally integrate figures into architectural scenes to bring them to life. You’ll learn to capture accurate proportions, convey depth and volume, and express the character of architecture using ink and watercolor.

Each 3-hour session combines clear theory with guided exercises and extended hands-on practice. The longer format allows for repetition and practical application, helping you build confidence through doing, not only observing.

By the end of the course, you will confidently construct balanced architectural compositions and sketch urban scenes with depth, clarity, and structure.

All necessary materials are provided by the studio.

What You’ll Learn:

• Ink & Watercolor Basics: Learn foundational techniques for working with ink and watercolor.

• Linear Perspective: Understand and apply 1-point and 2-point perspective, including constructing a street with a turn and more complex urban layouts.

• Tonal Value: Use tonal contrast to express depth, light, and volume in your sketches.

• Proportions & Simplification: Train your eye to capture correct proportions and simplify details while keeping architecture recognizable and expressive.
