This course focuses on developing your drawing skills—a crucial step for any artist

Understanding how to draw isn’t just about copying what you see — it’s about learning to see differently.

Academic drawing trains you to break down complex objects into simple geometric forms and to understand how those forms sit in space. This analytical approach helps you simplify what you see, recognize volume, and build proportionally accurate, convincing images on a flat page.

In this 5-week beginner course, you’ll get a structured introduction to this way of thinking and seeing. While it’s just the beginning of a longer path, it lays the groundwork for developing solid drawing habits.

All necessary materials are provided by the studio.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Drawing Fundamentals: Learn to construct basic forms like cubes, cylinders, and spheres — the foundation of all drawing.
  • Linework & Structure: Develop confident, clear line drawing to build precise and readable forms.
  • Tonal Shading: Practice tonal rendering on geometric forms to convey light, shadow, and volume.
  • Drawing from Life: Apply what you’ve learned in simple still-life setups, learning to recognize and build real objects through primitive forms.
