About the Instructor

Watercolor is the language I use to see and share the world. I was born in Moscow and now live and work in the Netherlands, where I’ve built a life around art, teaching, and quiet beauty.

Since 2021, I’ve been running my own watercolor studio and gallery in the historic center of Amsterdam. It’s a space where I paint, exhibit, and teach — helping others connect with their creativity through solid foundations in drawing, composition, color theory, and watercolor technique.

My paintings often focus on cityscapes and everyday scenes — not just what’s visible, but the feeling behind it. I try to capture something honest and poetic in ordinary moments.

In this author-led watercolor workshop by Darya Mitta, we will explore the atmosphere of a sunny street in Porto while learning how to transform a reference into an expressive and personal painting instead of simply copying it.

During the workshop, we will focus on the fundamentals of urban sketching and watercolor composition. You will learn how to build linear perspective with one vanishing point, simplify architectural forms, and create depth and contrast within a cityscape. We will also explore how to naturally place figures into the urban environment to bring movement and life into the scene.

Special attention will be given to developing a creative approach to references, learning how to select, simplify, and reinterpret elements in order to create a more artistic and atmospheric composition.

This workshop is suitable for both beginners and intermediate students who would like to strengthen their understanding of perspective, composition, and expressive watercolor techniques.

What You’ll Learn:
