Every watercolor artwork begins with a solid drawing. Drawing is the foundation, the framework on which great art is built. Composition, linework, proportions, and tonal analysis all come into play at the pencil sketch stage. Just as a building needs a strong foundation to stand tall, a good watercolor piece relies on a strong sketch.

Designed for beginners, this 5-week course focuses on developing your drawing skills—a crucial step for any artist. By honing your ability to observe and analyze, you’ll not only capture accurate proportions and create compelling compositions but also speed up your workflow and simplify your process. With weekly 3-hour practice, you’ll train both your eye and hand to work in harmony.

All necessary materials are provided by the studio.

What You’ll Learn:

• Drawing from Life: Practice sketching still-life setups directly in the studio.

• Compositional Balance: Learn to create harmonious and engaging compositions on the page.

• Tonal Shading: Master the use of hatching and shading to convey depth and tonal values.

• Form Analysis: Break down complex forms into simple shapes for better understanding and accuracy.

• Perspective Basics: Grasp the fundamentals of perspective to draw objects realistically.
